English breakfast

One of the most typical british meals

We have all spent more time at home lately and, once again, we prepared a typical English breakfast over the weekend. Our favourite breakfast!

Typically, a Full English Breakfast always includes eggs (scrambled or fried), sausages, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, fried bread and sometimes some black pudding, baked beans and potato roasties.

Anyone who has ever visited the English Isles will have seen or tasted this food in a pub or café. Traditionally served as a hearty breakfast, it is often served all day.

The hearty breakfast dates back to the Middle Ages, when people usually had only two meals a day. Breakfast was late and dinner was leftovers.

With us, it's more likely to be planned as a weekend brunch, where you can take your time while you relax and read the newspaper.

What does a Full English Breakfast look like for you?

Banana pancakes without flour

Pancake day, also called Shrove Tuesday, is celebrated in February or March in England, exactly 47 days before Easter Sunday. This simple, flourless version is a great breakfast, not only in England.

Still some brown bananas in the fruit bowl? Use them for this recipe. Together with yoghurt and blueberries, a refreshingly sweet and satisfying treat.

Children love these pancakes.

Ingredients for 2 people (approx. 10 small pancakes):

- 2 bananas

- 4 eggs

- 1 tsp cinnamon

- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla essence

- pinch of salt

- butter for baking

Blend eggs, banana chunks, cinnamon, vanilla essence and salt in a blender (or mix well with a fork).

Melt coconut oil or butter in a pan over medium heat. Pour small portions of the batter mixture into the pan (2-3 pancakes per baking round, depending on the size of the pan). Turn each after 1-2 minutes, fry until golden brown.

Our suggestion for a healthy and delicious topping:

Blueberries & Greek yoghurt & maple syrup.

Have fun trying them out,

Cancelled due to the Corona Pandemic

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is the largest music festival in Scotland and has nothing to do with tattoos. The festival has existed for over 70 years and enchants people from all over the world every year in  August on the square directly in front of Edinburgh Castle with its typical Scottish sounds.

Incidentally, "tattoo" means nothing other than "taps".

Unfortunately, this year the music festival, like many other events, did not take place due to the pandemic. But we are already looking forward to 2021, when the Duddelsäcke will be allowed to play again.

If you are a fan of this military music or would like to become one, we would be happy to organise a trip to Scotland for you in 2021.

Feedback from a school trip

Such emails give us strength to carry on

Dear Conni, Nicole, Karina and Angelika,

In the preparation and realisation of our wonderful trip, you proved to be my contact persons, thinkers and co-thinkers, supporters and helpers, in short, an all-round carefree and all-inclusive package in persona. My students, my colleagues and I were able to experience unforgettable days in the South of England thanks to your experience and care. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! It is nice to know that travelling with Senlac Tours is not just a trip to England, but rather a visit to friends.

Get ready for us to come back!!! I still have to think a bit about the exact date, but I think it will be late spring or early summer again. But until then, recover from us. Stay such a great team!

Best wishes and see you soon!

Architecture, culture, museums and more...

I can still remember my last trip to Dresden. It was 1992 when the Frauenkirche was still in ruins. Today, Dresden is unrecognisable with its magnificent buildings from different eras.

The most famous buildings in the old town, such as the Zwinger, the Semper Opera House and the Frauenkirche, can be easily explored on foot. A trip on the Elbe River is also highly recommended to get to know Dresden from a completely different perspective.

My children liked the panoramic tour on the suspension railway and the visit to the transport museum best.

On a school trip to Dresden, you can organise an exciting treasure hunt through the old town and combine culture with fun.

Many greetings from the Saxon capital.

Sloe gin - make it yourself

We are already in the weekend mood and so today we have a typical English drink for you. Sloe is the English word for the fruits of the blackthorn and Sloe Gin is a gin-based liqueur.

For the homemade Sloe Gin you need the following ingredients:

  • 500g ripe sloe berries
  • 250g golden fine granulated sugar
  • 1 litre of gin

Preparation:

  1. Wash and dry the berries well. Prick the berries with a fork or toothpick, then pour the berries into large preserving jars.
  2. Add the sugar and gin and seal the jars well. Shake well. Shake the jar(s) daily for a week. Store the jars in the cool and dark for 2 to 3 months.
  3. Then filter the liquid with a Muslin cloth and pour it into clean, dry bottles. Seal well and label. The sloe gin can now be enjoyed, though - a little tip: like most things, sloe gin only gets better with time. So if possible, make this year and enjoy next year.

Cheers, as you would say in English!

Hang on!

Dear Senlac Team,

I often drink from the beautiful Senlac mug and think of you and the many trips you have organised for my students and me. Angelika, I hope you are well and that you can continue to motivate the wonderful team to keep going for years to come.

I've been out of school for eight years now, but I'm looking after career changers at a school in Berlin.

All the best for you, better times will come again.

Best wishes to all those I still know in Hastings,

Bernhard

Makes you want to go to the beach

I love to walk by the Baltic Sea and, on windy days, watch all the kitesurfers showing off their acrobatic arts on the water. How I wish I could do this ...

The Baltic Sea offers so many water sports opportunities. Whether sailing, paddling or surfing, the main thing is to get moving at and on the sea.  This is how every school trip becomes an experience.

If you are interested, I will be happy to advise you,

Simple and healthy cooking

Your oven is your greatest friend!

Take a lot of vegetables, cut them into pieces, marinate them with olive oil, herbs, pepper and salt and put them in the oven for 30-40 minutes at 170 degrees - that's it. Make your kids (and yourself) extra happy with all kinds of fried vegetables; sweet potato, parsnip, carrot or courgette!

Thanks to Nora French for the great recipe (Health Coach & Author of cookbooks like Healthy Fast Food).
