We are already in the weekend mood and so today we have a typical English drink for you. Sloe is the English word for the fruits of the blackthorn and Sloe Gin is a gin-based liqueur.
For the homemade Sloe Gin you need the following ingredients:
- 500g ripe sloe berries
- 250g golden fine granulated sugar
- 1 litre of gin
Preparation:
- Wash and dry the berries well. Prick the berries with a fork or toothpick, then pour the berries into large preserving jars.
- Add the sugar and gin and seal the jars well. Shake well. Shake the jar(s) daily for a week. Store the jars in the cool and dark for 2 to 3 months.
- Then filter the liquid with a Muslin cloth and pour it into clean, dry bottles. Seal well and label. The sloe gin can now be enjoyed, though - a little tip: like most things, sloe gin only gets better with time. So if possible, make this year and enjoy next year.
Cheers, as you would say in English!
